Achieving the Promise of Indoor Location

On average, people spend as much as 90 percent of their time indoors, representing a huge unserved domain that the developers of location technology are now just starting to conquer with a variety of approaches designed to overcome the inability of traditional GNSS to provide sufficient location data indoors.

Taking indoor location to the next level, a dedicated indoor location infrastructure could be installed to provide even greater location granularity as well as more pervasive presence detection and proximity awareness as part of a comprehensive indoor location platform. Sensors could detect radio signals
emanating from unauthorised or rogue devices in high security areas.
Bluetooth Smart technology offers a number of interesting possibilities for use in smart buildings by enhancing the ability to monitor and track the movements of people and objects to learn behaviour and anticipate, for example, heating and lighting requirements.
