Intel Capital Stakes Grid Net

Grid Net on Wednesday grabbed a third round of funding for its network management software for utility companies. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The startup also added Braemar Energy Partners principal Scott DePasquale to its board of directors.

“Braemar’s mission is to identify and invest in the world’s most promising energy technology innovators,” Mr. DePasquale said in a statement.

The company is creating grid network software for use on WiMAX, a next-generation wireless Internet technology, with partners Clearwire, Intel, GE Energy, and Motorola,

Investors included Braemar Energy Ventures, Catamount Ventures, GE Energy Financial Services, and Intel Capital.

Grid Net’s software promises to help utilities better understand customers’ usage patterns, allowing management of various devices such as smart meters and routers.
